An advanced award in canine behaviour and training

This advanced course is home-study based, and includes some practically-based observations and research. As described, the course is truly advanced and is intended to broaden and deepen existing knowledge, while also examining new areas such as emotionality, the brain and behaviour and a multitude of case histories!
Course details:
Six-month home study (correspondence) course, with practical applications
Begins: 1st of each month
OCN accreditation - 18 credits at Level 3
Cost: £60 deposit (OCN registration fee) plus £495 course fee
What you will learn:
- Unit One: Rank Structure Revisited. Are domestic dogs really wolf-like? A new look at the role of pack leader and the behaviour of the pet dog with emphasis on emotionality, cognition and domestic evolution.
- Unit Two: Early learning - lessons for life. Behavioural development, weaning and socialisation.
- Unit Three: Practical applications of learning theory and training. Understanding signals of reward and non-reward. Clicker training and the anchoring of emotion. Creating creativity and training for specialist areas.
- Unit Four: The behavioural effects of food, fitness and emotion. An introduction to neurology and psychopharmacology, concentrating on emotionality and behaviour. Breed-specific behaviour - symptoms of clinical problems, potential diagnoses and the need for veterinary referral.
- Unit Five: The other end of the lead and case histories. Real-life behaviour cases, exploring common and complex behavioural problems.
- Special Study: A research based project of the student's choice.
Who is this course for?
Students who have successfully completed Think Dog! Certificate and Intermediate, or equivalent. (Do call us for advice or more information if you would like to discuss this further).
