Three Units (one unit per month) by home-study (including video/DVD material) and one practical weekend with Sarah Whitehead and colleagues in Windsor, Berkshire. Fully accredited by the OCNser. This course covers all the joys and challenges of running puppy parties and puppy classes by those in the know! Structure, content, behavioural assessment, clicker training and off-lead management are all covered in this exceptional practically-applied course.

Course details:
Three-month home study (correspondence) course, plus practical weekend in October
Begins: Students must complete the first three Units prior to the Practical weekend.
OCN accreditation - 15 credits at Level 2
Cost: £45 deposit plus £375

What you will learn:

  • Why run puppy classes? Aims and objectives. Structure and content.
  • Practical applications of learning theory. Methodology. Reinforcers. Teaching the seven basic exercises. Use of equipment. Recognising and evaluating punishments.
  • The human end of the lead. Transferring knowledge - presentation skills. Qualities of a puppy class instructor and class evaluation. Free play. Solutions to common problems.
  • Goal setting and reinforcing for success. Practical shaping skills - clicker training. Group dynamics, trouble shooting - difficult dogs and challenging people.
  • Promotional and business ideas.

Anyone who is running puppy classes/puppy parties, or assisting at a class. Anyone who is thinking of running or assisting at classes in the future.

This course offers a unique combination of practically-applied theory and practical tuition. Tutors are all experienced puppy class instructors with Alpha Pet Behaviour and Training.
