Seminars and Masterclasses

Sarah's one-day Masterclasses offer a chance to come and share her new thoughts and ideas on focused behaviour and training topics. There is no set prerequisite for attendees, although a good level of prior knowledge is assumed so that the group can discuss theory and practice at a practitioner level.

Each day runs from 9.30am-4pm and includes a tasty lunch. A maximum of 22 attendees mean that we cover a huge amount of content in just one day, making the learning experience remarkable value.

The Masterclasses are hosted at a venue in Chobham, Surrey, and by special arrangement in other areas of the UK and Ireland.

Please note that these courses are for humans only and it is the policy of the rehoming centre venue that dogs are not left in cars during the day. Thank you for your understanding.

Dog-to-Dog Play: What's OK, What's Not? Masterclass

With Sarah Whitehead

  • Date: Friday 24th April 2015
  • Venue: Chobham, Surrey
  • Max participants: 22

New! Let's face it, when we come to watching dogs play together, we can only admit how little we know! Why do they play? How do they learn? What motivates some to enjoy it and others not? When is play OK – and more importantly, when is it not? In this Masterclass I will give you some new and surprising insights that I have discovered in my last two years of concentrated dog-dog watching! I will give you ways to assess whether play between dogs is good, bad - or downright ugly, so that you know when and where to either step back or intervene. I will also share with you some of the 'accepted wisdom' that I have discovered to be myth, and we will discuss ways to ensure that puppies grow up with the very best social – and play - skills possible. The day includes refreshments and a light lunch.

Resource Guarding Masterclass

With Sarah Whitehead

  • Date: Friday 18th September 2015
  • Venue: Chobham, Surrey
  • Max participants: 22

Resource guarding is at the heart of much more aggression than we might imagine. This Masterclass will look at how to spot resource guarding in the park, at home, and in classes and consultations, and will look at ways in which we might act to resolve these situations before they become confrontational.

We will also look at the most effective ways to treat resource guarding in dogs, and discuss the pros and cons of some of the more commonly used behaviour programmes. What really works – and what doesn’t.

Cost includes refreshments and a delicious light lunch.

Puppy to Adolescent Masterclass

With Sarah Whitehead

  • Date: Friday 27th November 2015
  • Venue: Chobham, Surrey
  • Max participants: 22

When does a puppy become an adolescent? And why does it matter?

In my view, this phase in a dog’s life is every bit as critical as the puppy socialisation stage – in fact this is often the stage where behavioural problems are either made or prevented…

This Masterclass will look in-depth at emotional, mental and physical needs to make sure that this phase of a dog’s life does not lead to them ending up in a rescue centre – and is perfect for all those who find themselves dealing with highly active young dogs in classes, consultations, welfare or at home!

Refreshments and a delicious light lunch included.
